One question, then you are nearly done
Press the download button and a small prompt appears. It shows the name of your film set and asks: show your work in the gallery and promote your own work? Pick Yes, download and add to the gallery or No, just download. Your ZIP downloads either way. This prompt is the only way into the gallery: there is no open upload form, so every print there was made with the tool.
What the teaser is
It is a single image, made by the tool at that moment because it has your files in front of it: your artwork in colour on the left, and on the right the same spot of your darkest film as halftone dots, with a thin caption strip. It is a detail, never the complete film, so it shows what the film looks like without handing anyone a file they can print from.
Nothing is uploaded when you answer no. When you answer yes, that one small preview image (a few hundred kilobytes at most) is sent to the gallery’s storage so it can be attached to your entry. If you never publish the entry, the preview stays in storage until we clear it out.
Fill in the rest
The gallery form opens in a new tab with the teaser already attached, plus the technique and a short description of the separation filled in from your settings. You add:
- A title and a name or nickname, both required.
- Country and any description you want to add, both optional.
- A link to your website or sales channel, optional: Etsy, Gumroad, your own shop, Instagram. It appears on your entry as a button.
- A tick to confirm it is your own work and that the teaser, your name, the text and your link are shown publicly.
A photo of your finished print is optional when you come from the tool. Add one and it becomes the main image, with the teaser as a small inset on top.
Make the gallery work for your shop
- Link to the page where people can buy, not just to a homepage. An Etsy listing or a shop section beats a generic link.
- Use the description. Say what you printed, on what, and in how many colours. People looking at halftone work like to know.
- Show the print in context when you add a photo: on the shirt, on the wall, in the studio.
- Links on entries are normal, followed links, so they bring visitors and search value to your shop. Entries are checked afterwards and spam links are removed, so link to something worth visiting.
Protecting your image
Anything shown online can be saved, so the aim is to make it not worth stealing. The form can add a watermark across your photo, or let you upload a smaller size (1000 px is fine for a screen and too small to print). The photo is shrunk in your browser and location data is removed before it is uploaded. The teaser is already a detail, which is its own protection.
Entries and removal
Entries appear straight away and are checked afterwards, and an entry may be removed if it is not appropriate. If you want yours taken down, write to support@printfilmready.com.
Common questions
What exactly is sent when I say yes to the teaser?
One small preview image that the tool makes itself: your artwork next to a detail of your darkest film. Never the complete film and never your original file. It is attached to your gallery entry.
Do I need an account or an email address for the gallery?
No. You fill in a title and a name or nickname, tick that it is your own work and publish.
Can I add a link to my shop?
Yes, in the optional link field of the gallery form. It appears as a button on your entry. Only https links are accepted, and they are normal followed links.
What if I say yes but never publish the entry?
The preview stays in the gallery storage until we clear it out, and it is not shown anywhere.
